Some of the most meaningful pieces of jewellery we work with are not the ones we create from scratch. They are the ones that already exist — the pieces that carry a story, a memory, a connection to someone or something deeply personal. The ones that sit in a jewellery box, not because they are unloved, but because they feel too precious to wear and too sentimental to change.
This is Ellen's story.
The brief
Ellen came to us with three original sapphires — beautiful, meaningful stones that had been sitting quietly in a jewellery box for longer than she would have liked. The sapphires themselves were extraordinary. The setting they were in no longer felt right for the life she wanted to wear them in.
She trusted us with something genuinely precious — not just in terms of the stones themselves, but in terms of what they meant to her. And that is never something we take lightly.
The process
Every bespoke redesign at Harrogate Jewellers begins with a proper conversation. We wanted to understand what Ellen loved about the original piece, what she wanted to feel when she wore the new one, and how the sapphires themselves could best be showcased in a completely contemporary setting.
We explored a variety of setting styles and design directions together — considering how each option would sit with the three sapphires, how it would wear every day and how it would feel for years to come. Nothing was rushed and nothing was decided until it felt completely right.
Once the design direction was agreed, we carefully measured each of the three original sapphires individually. This is an essential step in any redesign involving existing stones — no two stones are ever exactly the same, and a truly bespoke setting is made specifically for the stones it holds, not the other way around.
To complete the design and add a little extra brilliance to the overall piece, we incorporated a small number of new diamonds into the setting — carefully chosen to complement the sapphires and brighten the design without ever competing with the stones that give the piece its meaning.

The result
The finished ring was created in platinum — the finest and most enduring of all precious metals, chosen specifically so that this piece could be worn, loved and passed down through many generations to come. Platinum does not fade, does not wear away and never needs replating. It is the right choice for a ring that is meant to last a lifetime.
Ellen's three sapphires — once stored away, now the undisputed focal points of a ring she wears every single day. That is exactly what bespoke jewellery redesign should feel like.
